5 Stars Works like a charm
This product worked great for my Nuvi 250W… bought this to replace my charger that was lost to a car accident. It isn’t the exact same charger that came in the packaging of my GPS, and neither is it the same one in the picture: The DC adapter is a little more rounded on the edges.

The length of the cord is the same length as my old charger, which is great because I’m able to route the cable from the bottom of my center console, under the driver’s side dash, between the door and the dash and up to the left side of my windshield.

Great product, and Amazon’s price can’t be beat.

3 Stars Didn’t need it.
When I bought the GPS unit, the site said that this cord was also bought by customers who bought the unit, so I thought I needed it. Turns out it came with the GPS, so I returned it.

I received this with my Nuvi 350. Within 3 months I had to replace it. I have since replaced it three times within two years. When it works it works well.

3 Stars Good… when it works.
When it works, it’s terrific. Problem is that it’s inconsistent in picking up GPS satellite. I start my runs from the same location every time and the 201 varies in its pickup of signal even though it’s the same time, same location, same weather. Some days it works without a hitch — and on other days, it will not pick up a signal even though it had no problem the day before. It will drop the GPS in the middle of a run in inconsistent places (again, I generally run the same route), and when it finally picks it up again it can misjudge the mileage by up to a half-mile. I know it’s not top-of-the-line, but I would expect a company with Garmin’s reputation to provide a better product. I’m hoping the 205 does a better job.

This is a great unit for tracking all outdoor activites. The ability to overlay your track onto a map is really handy when reviewing trails ventured off road.

2 Stars Can’t connect to the computer
I have started using the 201 to track both my bike riding and walking. However, I can’t get it to be recognized by the computer to use the tracking software. Garmin so far has not been able to help, another phone call to customer service is in the future. I really am satisfied with products that operate as they are advertised - I do not like to drag satisfaction out of a company.

5 Stars Runners best friend - Forerunner 201
This is the second Forerunner 201 I have purchased and have been delighted with them both. As a keen but amateur runner the precision measuring of the distance of my running routes off road and in inaccessible places is superb. I use it in the British Virgin Islands in the hills and island pathways and the GPS never fails me. It’s a terrific running partner and motivation tool. My only annoyance is it not having a USB link to my computer. The serial port connection cable is not user friendly to many new laptops and so I cannot use it to it’s fullest extent. I think it’s great value for money.

Design
With a total weight of 5.1 ounces and slim measurements of 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (WxHxD), the nuvi 350 is just right for the pocket or purse. A bright, 64,000-color display dominates the front of the device and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels means that there’s plenty of room for displaying map data and other elements of the device’s interface. An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount.

Fortunately, Garmin has made it easy to interface with the nuvi 350’s 700 megabytes of onboard memory, thanks to “plug-and-play” USB mass storage support. Just plug the device into your computer’s USB port and you’ve got instantaneous access to all the audio books, music, photos, supplemental maps and other data on the nuvi 350’s internal and SD card memory.

Navigation
The nuvi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go — in your car or on foot– the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nuvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control– making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique “text-to-speech” feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you’re viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nuvi 350 is compatible with Garmin’s GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.

As mentioned, the nuvi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin’s free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).

Tools for the Journey
Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nuvi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in “Travel Kit” offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.

In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language — right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit’s text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.

Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest– places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nuvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets– letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nuvi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.

My husband loves his Nuvi.. we gave it to him on Father’s day and he has thoroughly enjoyed it. He reports he has found faster ways to get places that he didn’t even know existed. No more MapQuest for us!!!!

5 Stars Superb GPS
The Garmin Nuvi 350 is my third GPS, and it is by far the best unit I have used. As an avid GPS user, I cannot express enough praise for this unit. With its large touch screen, complete U.S. street maps, built-in MP3 player, JPEG viewer, voice output navigation, this is one sweet unit. I hooked is up out of the box, and it worked perfectly for me in just minutes. (To discover all its features, however, I admit that I did have to scan through the paper manual, and then I read the .pdf manual that was included with the unit.)

This is an extremely simple unit to use, and it is very intuitive. At first, I thought I would not like its limited set of screens and menus, but with use, I have come to appreciate how Garmin simply removed the clutter that multiple options gave me on previous units.

Most shocking is how inexpensive and yet powerful this unit is. My last Garmin was a Quest (with color screen) for which I paid about $500 in 2006. This Nuvi is much faster, has a bigger screen, and provides far more capabilities than my previous unit. For me, this is a quantum leap forward in technology in just a 2-year period of time.

I really appreciate the fact that it takes an SD card. I bought a 2GB card and have loaded almost 30 CDs of music, and there is still room to spare. I just plug the output of the Nuvi into my car stereo (via a cassette adapter), and I no longer have to carry a bunch of CDs with me any more.

Some things this unit does not provide include track logs, routes, and a few other odds and ends, which I thought I would miss. But within a very short time, I realized I did not need those things to navigate with ease.

Thank you, Garmin, for making such a compact, intuitive, and feature-packed unit. The Nuvi 350 is a real winner for both novice and experienced GPS users.

5 Stars Garmin Nuvi 350
The Garmin Nuvi 350 is an excellent GPS for the money. I was origanally looking at the Nuvi 200, but for only 40 dollars more the 350 was well worth it. I won’t bore you with what was good as I could go on and on with the that, however I would like to tell you a negative:

When you try and avoid highways, you can not chose between Interstates and state highways. I was testing it and it wanted to take me out of the way through a neighborhood to avoid the state road I was on. I wish there was an option to avoid just interstates.

That is my only complaint with the gps, any other issues are minor and to be expected.

If you are looking for an inexpensive GPS for basic needs with a little extra the Nuvi 350 is it.

3 Stars Great interface, but not perfect
I bought this for my motorcycle because it claimed to have an 8 hour battery life. I figured that I would never ride that much at once, so it should be fine. I found out that it dies after only about 2 hours.. big letdown. However, if you plan on using it in the car, you can’t go wrong for the price.. it’s got a great interface and is easy to use.

I drive for a living and my GPS system is useful and very efficient 90% of the time. Sometimes with new and existing developement areas, the streets aren’t detected by the GPS system. Overall it’s very user friendly and has a lot of helpful features. The screen size, durability, and added features makes this product well worth the money.

Great unit, accurate and quick. Great screen, things move smoothly. Text to speech is a little robotic sounding and mispronouces street names here and there. Its a great unit, but has been surpassed with newer technology. However, for the price range it is in now, its a steal!

This is a great GPS. It has a beautiful clear wide screen. It works well 98% of the time.The suction cup for the winshield does not hold well.As soon as it gets hot and sunny out it lets go.My main beef is when you are looking for a Supermarket,gas station, resteaurant etc.that is suposed to be loaded in there. I would not trust it,some places in there where closed years ago.There is a shopping center that was built 3 years ago,The pizza shop and smoke shop is in there,but the large supermarket is not in there. I guess non of these things are perfict.

It works perfectly on my bicycle. It makes it easy to mount and remove the GPS, while placing it in a place that makes it easy to see while riding. I rated it 4 stars rather than 5 only because of what I consider to be a ridiculously high price. I will say though, that Amazon’s price was the best I found.
