If you are going to use this; be sure not to use a dash cleaner/polisher; be prepared to catch your Garmin and warn your front seat passenger too; and put it on the seat or between seat console for safety’ sake.

5 Stars Perfec Solution
If you have a relatively flat surface on your dash, this is the perfect alternative to the “sucker on the window” mount that comes with the Garmin 350. It takes about 10 seconds to take it out of the glove box and get everything situated and the same or less to stow it back in the glove box. When stowed, no one can tell you have/have had a GPS in use in the car. Great product!

5 Stars friction mount is really useful, works fine
Friction mount works great, just put it on the dashboard. Much easier to use than the suction clip that comes with the GPS unit, and doesn’t leave the telltale mark on the windshield that cues thieves that you have a GPS unit in the car. This is an essential accessory.

This weighted friction mount works much better than the windshield mount included with my Garmin nuvi 660 and the optional sticky dashboard mount I bought separately (It fell off when I went around the first corner after mounting it!). The weighted mount never moved throughout a recent 4,500 mile trip other than when I moved it out of sight when we parked.

5 Stars Garmin Nuvi 660
I purchased this unit to replace the GPS stolen from my car. It has greater functionality than the C330 I had. Overall the unit was easy to set up and use. The feature that alerts you to road hazards is somewhat confusing, but it is early the usage of it. May be it will become clearer with further experience. I no longer attach the unit to my windscreen for obvious reasons. I purchased a weighted dash unit support that works very well. It is easily removed when one exits the car: no more temptation for the thief to purloin it!!

5 Stars Beats Magellan By a Wide Margin
I bought my first GPS unit in early 2005 and purchased three Magellan units in 2006 and 2007. After reading many reviews here, I bought the 660 on sale via Amazon three months ago. I could not be happier and the unit has performed flawlessly.

The traffic feature works well as does the Bluetooth phone connection - the microphone is particularly good. I bought three other 660s for family members and they love them as well.

A note about customer service: based on my experience, Garmin has Magellan beat by a mile. At the time I bought the Garmin, I decided to give my old Magellan unit to my father for use on longer trips. I purchased the map update from Magellan and it was twice shipped to the wrong address. The call center in India was hopeless and reluctant to escalate my complaint to the resolution center in the U.S.. The U.S. team finally agreed to refund my money, but it has been almost two months and the credit has yet to show up in my bank account (I used a debit card). A letter to Magellan’s CEO and to the company’s owners went unanswered (it is a private company owned by venture capitalists in California).

In contrast, my experience with Garmin customer service was outstanding. Its call centers are in the U.S. and my issue was resolved promptly by a smart and courteous representative. I am hardly a xenophobic person; it simply comes down to the quality of customer service. With Magellan, my first point of contact was with someone who spoke only passable colloquial English and asked me to repeat myself over and over again. The call took almost 40 minutes, including 15 minutes of waiting time as the agent hesitated to escalate my call (I think they were hoping I would simply tire of waiting and hang up). My call to Garmin took less than five minutes and the experience was awesome.

Magellan might be saving money by outsourcing its customer service operations to India but, even if its products were as highly-ranked as Garmin’s, I would go with Garmin for its commitment to superior service.

This is my first GPS and it works great. Really easy to use but you should read the manual. The ladies voice is a little annoying after awhile but I just turned the voice off. I have a business and have to go to a lot of different addresses and this hasn’t let me down yet.

5 Stars the rue21 return went well
I bought a reconditioned unit from rue21 via Amazon. The unit was great. I used it on a 400 mile trip to Montreal, the spoken directions were accurate and timely and we could find restaurants, gas stations and even casinos. On the way back the unit stopped saying the street names in it’s spoken instruction which I assume was the original reason the unit was reconditioned. I have a five star rating because the return went very smooothly and rue21/Amazon deserve the positive feedback. I am repurchasing this unit ony not reconditioned.

5 Stars Works like a charm
This product worked great for my Nuvi 250W… bought this to replace my charger that was lost to a car accident. It isn’t the exact same charger that came in the packaging of my GPS, and neither is it the same one in the picture: The DC adapter is a little more rounded on the edges.

The length of the cord is the same length as my old charger, which is great because I’m able to route the cable from the bottom of my center console, under the driver’s side dash, between the door and the dash and up to the left side of my windshield.

Great product, and Amazon’s price can’t be beat.

When I bought the GPS unit, the site said that this cord was also bought by customers who bought the unit, so I thought I needed it. Turns out it came with the GPS, so I returned it.

Design
With a total weight of 5.1 ounces and slim measurements of 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (WxHxD), the nuvi 350 is just right for the pocket or purse. A bright, 64,000-color display dominates the front of the device and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels means that there’s plenty of room for displaying map data and other elements of the device’s interface. An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount.

Fortunately, Garmin has made it easy to interface with the nuvi 350’s 700 megabytes of onboard memory, thanks to “plug-and-play” USB mass storage support. Just plug the device into your computer’s USB port and you’ve got instantaneous access to all the audio books, music, photos, supplemental maps and other data on the nuvi 350’s internal and SD card memory.

Navigation
The nuvi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go — in your car or on foot– the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nuvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control– making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique “text-to-speech” feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you’re viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nuvi 350 is compatible with Garmin’s GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.

As mentioned, the nuvi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin’s free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).

Tools for the Journey
Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nuvi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in “Travel Kit” offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.

In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language — right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit’s text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.

Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest– places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nuvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. 5 Stars Superb GPS
The Garmin Nuvi 350 is my third GPS, and it is by far the best unit I have used. As an avid GPS user, I cannot express enough praise for this unit. With its large touch screen, complete U.S. street maps, built-in MP3 player, JPEG viewer, voice output navigation, this is one sweet unit. I hooked is up out of the box, and it worked perfectly for me in just minutes. (To discover all its features, however, I admit that I did have to scan through the paper manual, and then I read the .pdf manual that was included with the unit.)

This is an extremely simple unit to use, and it is very intuitive. At first, I thought I would not like its limited set of screens and menus, but with use, I have come to appreciate how Garmin simply removed the clutter that multiple options gave me on previous units.

Most shocking is how inexpensive and yet powerful this unit is. My last Garmin was a Quest (with color screen) for which I paid about $500 in 2006. This Nuvi is much faster, has a bigger screen, and provides far more capabilities than my previous unit. For me, this is a quantum leap forward in technology in just a 2-year period of time.

I really appreciate the fact that it takes an SD card. I bought a 2GB card and have loaded almost 30 CDs of music, and there is still room to spare. I just plug the output of the Nuvi into my car stereo (via a cassette adapter), and I no longer have to carry a bunch of CDs with me any more.

Some things this unit does not provide include track logs, routes, and a few other odds and ends, which I thought I would miss. But within a very short time, I realized I did not need those things to navigate with ease.

The Garmin Nuvi 350 is an excellent GPS for the money. I was origanally looking at the Nuvi 200, but for only 40 dollars more the 350 was well worth it. I won’t bore you with what was good as I could go on and on with the that, however I would like to tell you a negative:

When you try and avoid highways, you can not chose between Interstates and state highways. I was testing it and it wanted to take me out of the way through a neighborhood to avoid the state road I was on. I wish there was an option to avoid just interstates.

That is my only complaint with the gps, any other issues are minor and to be expected.

If you are looking for an inexpensive GPS for basic needs with a little extra the Nuvi 350 is it.

3 Stars Great interface, but not perfect
I bought this for my motorcycle because it claimed to have an 8 hour battery life. I figured that I would never ride that much at once, so it should be fine. I found out that it dies after only about 2 hours.. big letdown. However, if you plan on using it in the car, you can’t go wrong for the price.. it’s got a great interface and is easy to use.

I drive for a living and my GPS system is useful and very efficient 90% of the time. Sometimes with new and existing developement areas, the streets aren’t detected by the GPS system. Overall it’s very user friendly and has a lot of helpful features. The screen size, durability, and added features makes this product well worth the money.

4 Stars Great product but it is showing its technology age…
Great unit, accurate and quick. Great screen, things move smoothly. Text to speech is a little robotic sounding and mispronouces street names here and there. Its a great unit, but has been surpassed with newer technology. However, for the price range it is in now, its a steal!

This is a great GPS. It has a beautiful clear wide screen. It works well 98% of the time.The suction cup for the winshield does not hold well.As soon as it gets hot and sunny out it lets go.My main beef is when you are looking for a Supermarket,gas station, resteaurant etc.that is suposed to be loaded in there. I would not trust it,some places in there where closed years ago.There is a shopping center that was built 3 years ago,The pizza shop and smoke shop is in there,but the large supermarket is not in there. I guess non of these things are perfict.

This is a fantastic product. It is intuitive and easy to use. Much easier than trying to read a map while driving.
